Thames sailing barges, on the River Medway in Kent near London England UK. These lovely boats were once a very common site on Brittish rivers, the same as articulated lorries (trucks) are nowdays on all our roads. They shifted all the building materials, coal, and all else you can think of. Luckily there are a few enthusiasts who race these fine beasts still - and that picture was of the centenary sailing match on the Medway. It was a magic scene taking that shot: the tight knot of barges just fanned out - and the little boat crossed infront . Who won? Who cares?!
